Episode nine of series one was recorded in studio one at ATV Studios, Broad Street, Birmingham on 20 November 1973, four days before the actual broadcast date.

On the judging panel for this heat, according to a member of Bokkle Green, were Mary Whitehouse Clement Freud and Clifford Davis.

The winning act securing a slot in the grand final was Jackie Carlton, the comedian from Manchester, who would make his next appearance in the Grand Final on 29 December 1973.

The Wolverhampton group Bokkle Green finished third. Thanks to Bokkle Green member (Kevin Clark) we know the group were a short-lived musical act, from Wolverhampton, comprising Kevin on a Vox Continental Organ and Crumar Electric Piano and his friend Graeme Green (Thompson) on drums. They performed a simple up-tempo song, written by Kevin, called Just Fine which the audience and judges seemed to enjoy. Mary Whitehouse even commented that ‘anything that comes from Wolverhampton must be good.’

Bokkle Green’s appearance on New Faces resulted in them getting booked for a summer season in Jersey, followed by tours of Germany, Spain and the Mediterranean. Kevin Clark went on to have a successful career in London and New York as a songwriter, musician and record producer.

Kevin’s biggest hit as a songwriter was the 1998 UK Top 5 hit Crush recorded by Jennifer Paige, which peaked at No.1 in Spain, Denmark, New Zealand, South Africa, Russia, Australia and Canada. He has also written songs for Sheena Easton, Louise, Dina Carroll and Gloria Gaynor.

Female Impersonator, Terry Chappelle, was well known in the holiday camps of his home county of Norfolk. As far back as 1969 he was performing his drag impressions act at the Majorca Centre, Hopton-on-Sea, near Great Yarmouth. His impressions, including Gracie Fields, Carol Channing, Dora Bryan, Ethel Merman, Bette Davis and Eartha Kitt earned him an audition for TV when he tried for a spot on the show “Who Do You Do?”

His smut free act full of slick impressions and gags and featuring his impressive soprano voice, had been winning over audiences for a good few years before his appearance on New Faces. His performances were even more impressive when you know that his knock out-gowns worn in his act, are made by Terry’s own hands.

In the Summer of 1971 Terry enjoyed a residency at the Magic Circle Club in Hopton-on-Sea. Having opened in May 1971 the club quickly became one of the leading holiday centres on the East Coast drawing crowds from a large number of caravan holiday-makers.
