
With the returning acts opening episode kicking off the new series the previous week, heat two featured seven new acts as well as a new judge. Joining series one regular judges Tony Hatch and Clifford Davis, fresh from the Eurovision host duties, was Katie Boyle. Only the previous week Katie had been in Brighton presenting the Eurovision Song Contest 1974, which had introduced the UK to another new face when Swedish group Abba won with Waterloo.
The judges were presented with the following acts;
- Harvest (vocal-instrumental trio)
- Sweet Sensation (eight-piece group)
- Duggie Small (comedian)
- Meg Johnson (vocalist)
- Mike Alexander (pianist-vocalist)
- Rick Lomas (comedian)
- Reg Coates Experience (five-piece group)
The winning act was Manchester soul group Sweet Sensation who would be seen again in the Gala Final at the end of the series. One other act that viewers would see again was Duggie Small, when he reappeared with his comedy act in series seven, the first series of the 1980s revival, of New Faces.
